A History of Simran Practice in the Sant Tradition (Path of the Masters): The Many Names of the Nameless God (Anami):

The Opposite of “Not One Of Us” is “We Are All One”: In terms of Sant Mat history, there has never been a time during the last several centuries when there was “only one” Sant Satguru operating in the world. The reality is there have been multiple lineages of spiritual Masters contemporary with one another since at least the time of Kabir and Guru Nanak in the 14th century. Both Guru Kabir and Guru Nanak were founding gurus who appointed successors. These are guru lineages now spanning many generations. Generally speaking, we have the various Sikh Gurus in one line, and the successors and devotees of Guru Kabir in another. Of course, it’s much more complicated than this, with the formation of many Nanak and Kabir Panths and sects over the centuries:

“Ek Ong Kaar” is in the opening verses of Guru Nanak’s Jap Ji (Morning Prayer), along with countless other references to Ekankar (Ik Onkar ਇਕ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ) found in the Adi Granth/Sikh Scriptures of India.

Guru Verification Process

“Satguru Kabir warns everyone and says: ‘One should make someone his Guru only after thorough verification about him. One should drink water only after filtering it in order to save oneself from contamination. One who adopts a Guru without making proper verification about him has to remain continuing in the eighty-four lakh modes of existence of living beings in this world [transmigration]. If someone makes someone his Guru without any verification about him and that Guru turns out to be false and cunning, how could that unqualified teacher bring fulfillment to the ultimate aim of his disciple’s life?’” — Kabir, “1008 Kabir Vani” — 1008 Saakhis of Guru Kabir, Manoj Publications, New Delhi

Often ‘the student is genuine, even if the guru is not’. Something about those teachings resonated with the followers of the “western light and sound”, and that makes them interesting people. I suspect (or would like to believe) the grace of Master Kirpal has been working to “tie up loose ends” and help guide those souls. May they all find their way home. Some have already! As another person by the name of Paul once said: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Recognizing Genuine, Advanced Spiritual Masters of Inner Light and Sound – Guiding Principals: “If one has accepted a teacher and later finds him or her lacking in rectitude, that teacher should be abandoned. Undoing the Damage of Rogue Light and Sound Gurus – Deviations from The Path, Part Three – The number of initiates of real Masters continues to rapidly grow in the Western countries. Sant Mat is as much Western as Eastern. “The Great Ones are initiated by God Himself, and they prove their initiations not by their claims, but in their works.” (Hazrat Inayat Khan):

“You have to learn to get up from the table when love is no longer being served.” (Nina Simone) “In Sant Mat all Masters have decried killing and meat-eating.” (Sant Tulsi Sahib) “Those who take up the practices concerning the lower centers in the body, do take meat – the Mohammedans and people of other religions also. But those who are anxious to rise above body-consciousness and go into the Beyond have of necessity to eschew all that. This is the Path I have put before you. Liberation or salvation is something which starts only when you rise above body-consciousness. For that reason, vegetarianism is the first essential.” (Sant Kirpal Singh, The Night is a Jungle, Sant Bani Books) A Western Master of the Sound Current by the name of Pythagoras once said, “Our Earth has abundance of such pure and harmless foods and there is no need for us to partake of meals for which blood has to be shed and innocent life sacrificed.” What difference does it make? Read the Book of Compassion:

Vegetarian Diet and Sant Mat: In many cultures we often see this desire to mainstream or alter the message of masters and messiahs. Buddha said, “Meat eating I have not permitted to anyone, I do not permit and will not permit”, and….”The eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great compassion.” Yet a few short years after the Buddha other forms of Buddhism came along that were pro-meat and composed their own sutras. Like the Essenes, Jesus, his family, and the original followers were also vegetarians and opposed to all sacrifice of animals in the Jewish temple. “Now beware in yourselves that your hearts do not become heavy with the eating of flesh and with the intoxication of wine and with the anxiety of the world, and that day come up upon you suddenly; for as a snare it will come upon all them that sit on the surface of the earth.” (Jesus) In Christianity the vegetarian tradition of the original Aramaic-speaking Jesus Movement was soon overshadowed by Paul’s group of Roman converts with their pro-meat gospels, and ‘fishes’ got added to the ‘loaves’ in Second Century manuscripts. In Sant Mat there is a highly instructive parallel. Kirpal Singh’s first visit to the US was in 1955. Paul Twitchell was sitting in the audience, even asked a few questions, and a decade later here comes his Eckankar publications with pro-meat “light and sound” teachings (“MEAT-SHABDA”) – a wonderful contemporary example of how pro-meat-eating “sutras” and “gospels” get created in response to a new spiritual movement touching a society. Article: Evidence that Jesus and the Original Aramaic Christians Were Vegetarians. Certain American new age “light and sound groups” sometimes attempt to make propaganda by citing passages from the New Testament about eating meat. They argue that, according to their understanding, Jesus ate meat and therefore we “should” eat meat too. This outdated Sunday School logic is dealt with rather thoroughly:

At the Sant Mat Fellowship Links Page, scroll down near the bottom for “WESTERN PLAGIARISMS OF INDIA’S SANT MAT TRADITION.” The leader of a spiritual movement must always be the embodiment of Truth. Without a competent Master, a spiritual movement will not be capable of being an instrument in the world for the Positive Power (God):
