Here’s something from the Jewish tradition that reminds me of that unusual phrase “for whose sake heaven and earth came into being,” used in the Gospel of Thomas. “For my sake, the entire world was created.” – Baal Shem Tov
Gospel of Thomas, Logion 12: The disciples said to Jesus, “We know that you will depart from us. Who is to be our leader?” Jesus said to them, “Wherever you are, you are to go to James the Just, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being.”
Something similar is found in the Sikh scriptures of India: “It was for the sake of the God-conscious beings that our True Lord created this earth, and began this play of death and birth”. (Adi Granth)
